100% BIODEGRADABLE TEA BAGS

As part of an eco-friendly approach, Camellia Sinensis produces its tea bags in a woven mesh filter derived from corn starch, PLA or polylactic acid, 100% biodegradable in industrial composting (T> 60 ° C). Therefore, our teabags can be deposited directly in the compost bins managed by your municipality.

WHAT IS POLYLACTIC ACID?

In fact, this material, used among others in surgery, food packaging and 3D printing, is obtained by lactic fermentation of glucose, derived from corn starch. It does not contain hazardous substances such as endocrine disruptors, does not generate dangerous gases such as dioxin when burnt (it is decomposed into carbon dioxide and water), and is also antibacterial and antifungus.

DID YOU KNOW THAT WE PRODUCE OUR OWN TEA BAGS?

For over 5 years, we have all the necessary equipment to produce our teabags and we have been using since the beginning of this project only bags made from plant fibers. Those are made out of PLA, which is a material that is approved by the FDA (United States) and that respects the European norms, which are the strictest in the world.

It is also good to know that many of our packaging is now completely compostable (tisane bags, take-away containers, teabags), and we will work on the entire range for 2020. To be continued...
